Kongsberg Jazz Festival (N)
The Kongsberg Jazzfestival is one of the oldest festivals in Norway, and has been held since 1964. The festival has become one of the largest and most important venues for pioneering and innovating jazz. Its international profile shows that Kongsberg Jazzfestival dares to create strong musical experiences through a broad program, where the avant-garde events are flagged as high as the larger, more popular events. In addition, Kongsberg Jazzfestival also has its own children’s festival, as well as workshops, a jazz film program and concerts at local institutions.
Jazzopen Stuttgart (D)
Jazzopen Stuttgart in Germany is a spectacular festival that is regarded as one of the highlights on the European festival calendar since 1994. Every year around 34,000 visitors find their way to the festival that is a temporary home to a number of the most popular and established Jazz, Blues, Rock and Soul musicians from around the world. Previous editions have hosted Jamie Cullum, David Gilmour, Van Morrison, Lenny Kravitz and many more. In 2018, the winner of the ‘LetterOne ‘RISING STARS’ Jazz Award’ will be up there, sharing the bill with these legendary names!
Nice Jazz Festival (F)
The Nice Jazz Festival was founded in 1948 and is regarded as the first ever jazz festival with international significance. Jazz icons like Louis Armstrong, Miles Davis, Ella Fitzgerald and Dizzy Gillespie once headlined. The festival runs for 5 days on closely arranged stages; only three acts on each stage and it presents a highly diverse mix of music; from European and American modern jazz to French neo-soul and classic rock. Nice Jazz Festival is also a socially responsible music event: supporting charities and endorsing an environmentally friendly approach.
Leopolis Jazzfest (UA)
The Leopolis Jazz Fest is an international open-air jazz festival, which is annually held in Lviv and visited by over 100,000 spectators. The five-day concerts feature over a hundred world-class musicians, performing on three stages in the city’s downtown area. In addition to the concerts, jam sessions, master-classes and autograph sessions with world jazz stars take place during the festival.
Heineken Jazzaldia San Sebastian (E)
In over 50 years, all the great international jazz musicians have passed through the Heineken Jazzaldia Festival in San Sebastian, which began in 1966. Hosting around a hundred concerts on twelve beautifully located stages across the city, from intimate to some with capacities of up to 50,000 people, the Heineken Jazzaldia presents an award to one of the artists performing at the festival in recognition of their contribution to jazz and their influence on following generations of musicians (previous award winners include Elvin Jones, Ahmad Jamal, Ron Carter, Ray Brown and many more).
Love Supreme Jazzfest (GB)
The Love Supreme Festival is a 3 day greenfield jazz festival held in the first weekend of July in the stunning surroundings of the iconic Glynde Place and is widely regarded as one of the top jazz festivals in Europe. Love Supreme is the first full weekend camping jazz festival in the UK and has hosted many renowned artists such as Herbie Hancock, George Benson, Earth Wind & Fire, Van Morrison, Jamie Cullum and Brad Mehldau among others. The festival was the brainchild of former Universal record executive Ciro Romano and was launched in 2013. Besided various stages there are DJs and club nights, talks and lectures, VIP experiences , cabaret and spoken word and much more!
Umbria Jazz (I)
Umbria Jazz ® is a ten day festival organized in July, during which Perugia devotes itself to jazz and embraces the best of the national and international jazz scene. The inaugural edition of the festival in 1973 hosted various legendary jazz artists such as the Thad Jones / Mel Lewis Big Band ft. Dee Dee Bridgewater, Weather Report, Jackie McLean and the Sun Ra Arkestra among others and immediately set the standard for years to come. Umbria Jazz is considered to be the most important jazz festival in Italy and also hosts a Winter Edition for more than 15 years.
